STAGE 1 (Age 13-30):

The Dark Ages

It started with my grandmother saying, "Now I know why you've been so mean to your brother." What should have been a celebration became 17 years of monthly hopelessness.

Every cycle, I crumbled — crying as if someone had died, consumed by rage and despair that didn't match anything happening in my life.

The Misdiagnosis Spiral:

  • At 14, birth control for "severe PMS."
  • At 17, misdiagnosed bipolar and put on antipsychotics.
  • I lost friends, quit the dance team, couldn't finish high school full-time.
  • I moved 9 times in one year trying to escape myself — leaving destruction behind at every stop.

Doctors kept offering the same things. I couldn't connect what was happening to my cycle, even as it consumed me every month.

STAGE 2:

Rock Bottom

At 27, I sat in my gynecologist's office crying: "I have really bad PMS. I'm going to ruin this relationship. Please help me."

Birth control and SSRIs. Out of desperation, I said yes.

Within three months, I systematically destroyed every good thing in my life:

  • Lost the relationship I went on it to protect
  • Lost my housing
  • Lost my job
  • Lost my best friend
  • Lost hope

Instead of 14 bad days, I was symptomatic every single day. I had two choices: End it here, or find another way forward.

"I drew a line in the sand. This was not living, and I would not continue this way."

STAGE 3:

The Lightbulb Moment

PMDD had been added to the DSM in 2013. Not one doctor had mentioned it in 17 years of seeking help.

Finally, A Name for My Pain.

When I finally found the name, everything clicked. If this was hormonal, maybe there were other ways to heal — beyond medications that had only made things worse.

Shifting from conventional to functional medicine approaches I:

  • Started learning about the four phases of my cycle
  • Discovered integrative menstrual health protocols
  • Followed the period revolution happening in women's health in 2017
  • Began implementing root-cause protocols

"If this was a hormonal mood disorder, maybe there were other ways to heal beyond just taking medications?"

STAGE 4:

Reframing Rock Bottom as My Trampoline

My First Symptom-Free Cycle in 17 Years

Three months. That's all it took.

When my period came with no warning — no rage, no despair, no self-destruction — I just sat there in shock.

My period just... came.

The Revelation: "This is how people my age are married, have doctorate degrees, own homes. Their periods just come and their whole lives don't fall apart for two weeks."

In that moment, I knew this would become my life's purpose.

"Your trauma can become your teacher. Your wound can become your wisdom."

STAGE 5:

Turning My Pain Into My Purpose

Building the Foundation to Help Others + the life I’ve reclaimed

My partner (now husband) encouraged me to get the credentials to do more than peer support. I got certified. I built Her Mood Mentor.

The Journey:

  • Marriage to the man who witnessed and supported my transformation
  • Home ownership with my own garden
  • Stable, meaningful work aligned with my purpose
  • Trust in myself and my body
  • The ability to pursue and achieve dreams

"I couldn't have the impact I wanted with just my story. I needed the tools and knowledge to truly help others transform their lives."
